Highlights of the week:

In English this week, we have started looking at "Stone Age Boy. We began the week looking at the front cover and an image from inside the book. Using our predicting skills, we tried to predict what the story could be about and came up with some questions to ask one of the characters.

In Maths this week, we have been looking at number lines. We have been placing numbers on the number lines up to 1000. For this, we needed to work out the intervals between each number so we could see what the number line was counting up in. This knowledge helped us at the end of the week when we were estimating missing numbers on the number line.

This week in Phonics we looked at /-ey/ as in monkey. The class have shown great understanding in how to use the new phonics scheme and have practised saying, reading and writing the daily sounds. They have also practised writing these in their handwriting sessions to cement their understanding of the spellings of these words.

In History, we looked at different artefacts and we made predictions on what they were used for in the Stone Age and if they reminded us of everything we use today. We then sketched the different artefacts in our History books.

During our Science lessons this week, we became geologists. We learnt all about the 3 main types of rocks (Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic). We learnt about how the different types of rock are formed. We then set up an experiment to see what happens when you put the different types of rocks in water. We have left them to see what happens.

In computing, we looked at the importance of passwords and how some passwords will protect us more than others. We had fun on this website https://www.security.org/how-secure-is-my-password/ we were trying to find at most secure passwords.

During art this week, we explored various shading techniques using charcoal. We began with the basics of hatching, where we created parallel lines to add depth and dimension to our drawings. Next, we moved on to cross-hatching, overlapping lines in a crisscross pattern to achieve a more textured and darker shading effect. We also experimented with stippling, using tiny dots to build up tone and texture in our artwork.

● Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
● Now we have TimesTables Rockstars, please support your child to access it online. It is recommended that children play TTRS for 5 minutes a day for maximum impact.

● PE days for Year 3 are Thursdays and Fridays.
● Our library days are on Wednesdays, please can you make sure your child has their library book to return or renew. We have a few overdue books, please could you look for these at home, so your child can take home a new book.
