2nd - 6th October 2023

Highlights of the week:

Phonics:

● We have been learning about the letters p and n, which are code for the sound /p/ as in pan and /n/ as in net. In your child’s phonics folder, you will find the sheets that they have completed in the lessons this week.
● We have then had a go at forming our letters correctly. We have been working on our pencil grip using our ‘pinchy fingers and trying to form the letters correctly using the word rhymes to support us.
● We have been using our skills of blending to have a go at reading words. Your child will have a ‘My words’ list in their phonics folder.
● We have been practising segmenting to have a go at hearing the sounds all through the spoken words to get us reading for writing.

Maths:

● This week we have been teaching our class puppets to be careful counters. We have been talking about lining things up to support us when we are counting and making sure that we count each object once, (we have found touching when counting helps us).
● In Butterfly class, we have George the Giraffe.
● In Ladybird class, we have Nelson the Fox.

Core Text:

• This week we read the book ‘The Bear who can’t share’. We have talked about why it is important to share with our friends and ways that we can share during independent learning time.

Music:

● In music, we listened to Sing by The Carpenters. We talked about how the music made us feel and about the things it made us think of. We enjoyed learning and performing the song ‘This old man’ and practised adding actions to help us remember the lyrics.

Home learning ideas:

● What can you find around your house that begins with the /p/ and /n/ sound?
● Have a go at some letter formation using your finger and some shaving foam or flour! Send us your pictures on Tapestry.
● Can you have a go at counting some objects at home; you could use the strategies we have learnt this week. Such as lining them up, touching them or moving them to help you count carefully.
