9th - 12th October 2023

Highlights of the week:

In English this week the children have written their own character descriptions based on the character they created for Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. The children were asked to create flawed personalities and fun names that give the reader a clue about their character’s habits and behaviours. I was so impressed with their use of similes!

In Maths this week we finished our Place Value topic! The children really enjoyed completing an end of unit assessment and comparing their score to the first week of term. It was great to see how much progress they had made! The children are really looking forward to starting their learning on Addition and Subtraction next week where they will be able to apply all of their place value skills to 10,000.

In Guided Reading this week the children have been looking at ‘The Lost Words’ and the Newt poem. They have really enjoyed finding the meaning of the unknown vocabulary, explaining how the poem made them feel and drawing what they think the newt must look like based on the author’s descriptive language.

In PE, the children have been learning all about working as part of a team. They were challenged to create their own obstacle courses and games before challenging other teams to play them! This was great for reflecting on their ability to communicate, compromise and cooperate!

In Art the children enjoyed applying the skills that they learnt last week when working with watercolours to paint a picture in the style of Wayne Thiebaud. They used similar colours and tone to create shadow. I was so impressed with the beautiful outcomes in their sketchbooks!

In Spanish this week, the children learnt how to say ‘In my town there is…’ and describe the features of Botley. The children worked in pairs to ask ‘What is in your town?’ and respond with the features. They worked extremely hard on their accents!
